Morning Devotion (Part 2)

In the first part of this series, we saw how essential it is to prioritize God. Because what we do first or prioritize is our God. If it's your phone you touch first, or your family, or your work then they have turned to your god.

We'll continue from where we stopped as we look at a perfect example in the person of the Lord Jesus. In Mark 1:35;

[35]And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

A great while before the day won't be 7 am, 8 am, or 9 am. It will be 12 am to 6 am. Why is this important to note? What we wake up early to do is of priority. It shows reference and love for that task. It has to be before any other activities.

Hence, Morning devotion is the godly activity we engage in very early in the morning before doing any other things. All through scriptures essential things or instructions given by God are carried out early in the morning. So it is of utmost priority to wake up and engage in spiritual exercise. In Psalms 63:1;

[1](A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.) O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

"Early will I seek you", David said.

ACTIVITIES BEFORE THE DAYBREAK

There are activities we should engage in early before the break of the day and they include;

1. Prayer: We communicate with our Father. There must be a Fellowship in words. He wants to always hear us. In Psalms 65:2;

[2]O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

God's function is to hear prayer, your function is to speak to him in prayer.

2. Read God's word: the Old Testament believers read the Bible for meditation. Anytime they want to hear God speak to them, they pick up the 'Torah' in their Bible and start to read and meditate over it.

Always read God's Word to receive his fresh word back to your spirit. When you speak to God in prayer, he speaks back to you in His Word as you read.

3. Listen to Spirit-inspired messages: You can listen to teachings from spirit-inspired men of God as led by the spirit of God either from your pastors or other ministers of God.

4. Cultivate the habit of taking notes: Make sure you receive a word written down after each devotion in your notebook. Always go to prayer with your writing material as that is Faith to receive. Those words you receive are going to channel your day. It might be an instruction, direction, exhortation, or even a new song. That is God's Word to you.

In conclusion, God wants us to place him first in all that we do. Don't live without you have another God. Then if it's just one God and it's the Lord Jesus, you ought to place him first. Before any activity as you wake. And you have to wake up early because your quiet time shouldn't be interrupted by other activities. As you do this consistently you will see your walk with God become new and fresh. Don't start the day without a word from God. Have a sweet devotion. Amen.

Action point: Set your alarm to a time that is before 7 am so you can wake early to seek the Lord's face. As you seek God first, all good things will be directed to you. Be deliberate about it. It will not suddenly happen. Blessings!
